Criteria for the identification of significant pollution from diffuse sources, selection and application of appropriate models for quantitative impact assessment

Activities:

Activity 1: Development of Methodologies for the quantitative determination of pressures from diffuse sources, causing water pollution with nitrogen, phosphorus, and their compounds

  • Activity 1.1 Indicators and data collection to quantify the pressures impacts and state caused by the main driving forces;
  • Activity 1.2: Identification and quantification of the factors determining the self-purification ability of different types of water bodies of categories “river”, “lake” and “transitional waters”;
  • Activity 1.3 Analysis of the application of methods and models by EU countries to evaluate the pressure impact state causalities
  • of diffuse pollution from nitrogen and phosphorus and evaluate their applicability for Bulgaria;
  • Activity 1.4 Calibrate BQEs and physical-chemical parameters status of the different types of water bodies of categories “river”, “lake” and “transitional waters” as a basis for normative criteria to determining the significance of anthropogenic pressure;
  • Activity 1.5 Development of methods and criteria for assessing the significance of the pressure.


Activity 2: Development of methodologies for assessing the pressure from the diffuse sources, causing water pollution by chemical compounds

  • Activity 2.1 Determination of the main diffuse sources of chemical pollution and related main potential pollutants;
  • Activity 2.2 Analysis of the application of methods/models by EU countries to evaluate pressure from diffuse sources of chemical pollution and evaluate the conditions and possibilities for their application in Bulgaria;
  • Activity 2.3 Develop criteria for assessing the significance of the pressure of each diffuse source of chemical pollution - for key pollutants at water body level;
  • Activity 2.4 Determining the indicators for the pressure - chemical contamination;
  • Activity 2.5 Development of approach and criteria for evaluation of pressure on water from atmospheric deposition, incl. criteria for assessing the significance of the pressure.


Activity 3: Support to facilitate the future redesign of the monitoring networks.
