Project objective:
The main purpose of this contract is related to implementation of biological classification of surface water bodies of categories "river", "lake” and "transitional water” in Bulgaria as basis for assessment of ecological status and ecological potential within the Development of the 3rd RBMP.
Activities:
The project envisages performance of the following tasks and activities:
TASK 1: Preparation of data only available in analog format:
- Activity 1.1.: Identification and systematization of data only available in analog format.
TASK 2: Classification of ecological status and ecological potential per data set of available samplings.
TASK 3: Assessment of ecological status and ecological potential on water body level for all water bodies of categories "river", "lake” and "transitional water” in Bulgaria:
- Activity 3.1. Review of the approach for assessment of ecological status and ecological potential of water bodies, used by RBDs within the 2nd RBMP and description of the proposed approach for the 3rd RBMP;
- Activity 3.2. Assessment of the ecological status and ecological potential of all water bodies of categories "river", "lake” and "transitional water”;

Activity 3.3. Plausibility check of the data and discussion of significant changes of status classification.
Expected results from the execution of the awarded contract:
- Structured overview of all relevant data. Proposed structure of all deliverables including tables of contents of each deliverable;
- Digitized data from all available samplings (data base);
- Updated overview from task 1.1 Short description of methodologies;
- Classification of all available samplings (data base);
- Review of the approach used within 2nd RBMP. Proposed rule-based approach for 3rd RBMP;
- Classification of water bodies based on rule-based approach;
- Classification of water bodies based on rule-based approach (geodatabase);
- Classification of all water bodies based on rule-based approach and expert judgement;
- Classification of water bodies based on rule-based approach and expert judgement (geodatabase).
